Why I pay to be a Statamic partner

13 July 2026 in Web Development

My site says I’m a Statamic partner. Fair question if you read that: what is that, and do I get paid for it? Short answer to the second part: no. If anything, I pay Statamic. They don’t pay me a thing for the clients I bring their way.

I want to set that straight, because I’m so enthusiastic about Statamic that some people assume I must be getting a cut. And if you’re the skeptical type, you’re probably wondering exactly that: is there money in this for me somewhere? There isn’t. I’m a partner because I genuinely think it’s the best CMS for most of my clients. That’s it.

But first, back up: what is Statamic anyway?

What is Statamic?

Statamic is a CMS: the system you use to manage your website’s content. Like WordPress, then, only more modern and a lot nicer to work with. Instead of cramming everything into a database, Statamic stores your content in files by default. That makes it faster, safer, and far less prone to the hacking attempts WordPress sites deal with constantly.

Why I increasingly pick Statamic over WordPress as a developer, I’ve written up in detail in WordPress vs Statamic. For this story it’s enough to know: I built WordPress sites for years, and I’ve become convinced that Statamic is the better call for most of my clients.

Why become a partner?

Almost everyone who thinks about a website thinks WordPress. Clients call me and just assume it’ll be a WordPress site. I get it: WordPress runs about a third of the internet. But it’s also a little odd, because for plenty of those sites it isn’t the smartest choice.

I wanted to put something up against that. Becoming an official partner was my way of planting a flag: this is what I stand for.

And the partnership genuinely gives me something back (besides an invoice):

  • I’m in the partner chats. That’s where a bunch of very good Statamic developers hang out, building the wildest things with the platform. It keeps me ahead of what’s possible, far more than if I were figuring it all out on my own. That flows straight into what I can build for clients.
  • I’m listed on the partners page at statamic.com. If someone’s looking for a Statamic specialist, they can find me there, along with the work I’ve done.

What I’m built for

If there’s one job that makes me happy, it’s this one: taking an old WordPress site that’s slow, buckling under its own plugins and barely maintainable anymore, and rebuilding it into a fast, modern Statamic site.

That’s exactly my lane. I know both worlds: I’ve built enough WordPress sites to know where they get stuck, and I know how to make the same thing run smoothly in Statamic.

So if you’ve got a WordPress site that’s giving you more headaches than joy, or you’re starting something new and wondering whether WordPress is really the right pick: send me a message. I still don’t earn a thing by nudging you toward Statamic. I just think your site will be better for it.
